Here on this planet we can experience the interplay of spirit and matter. In old books we can read how matter was created by spirit. Modern science assumes that spirit is a product of matter. For one side, there is no matter that is not created by spirit. For the other side, there is no spirit that is not caused by matter. If we move even further into the extremes, we find an opinion that completely rejects either matter or spirit and calls it an illusion or a hallucination. This is how we get to different world views, and their followers are usually fully convinced to be the closest to the truth.
Of course we would like to know who is right. At least, if we have some distance to the question and consider all options. Otherwise we already made a judgment, and probably do not want to know anything about other possibilities. Who beliefs to know the truth does no longer need to look for it. Will no longer want to look for it. And as a result will no longer get any closer to it. That is unfortunate, because non of us has grasped the world fully yet. We are all on our way. If I am convinced that I no longer get any closer to the truth, there are two conclusions: I am already there, or I took a wrong turn and cannot get any closer without going back from that spot. It would be easy if we got closer to truth with every step we take. However, it is quite ambitious to never err. As a result of the way we experience the world (this will be the topic of a future article), occasional fallacies are impossible to avoid. We must be willing to take back a step or two sometimes. We can look around and show interest in the steps that others took and where it got them. Who beliefs to have always gone the right way is screwed since the first misstep. Like this many get into a dead end on their quest to truth, and they either give up or tirelessly grind away in that spot without success.
If we fall into one of the extremes in the fundamental question of spirit and matter, the search for truth will become difficult. Then we need to be strong and expand our Weltbild into the direction that we have so far rejected. Only by doing so can we grasp the world in its entirety. Only then can we get closer and closer to the truth. Often we are discouraged to do so because we learned that spirit and matter cannot exist with equal rights. That they are incompatible. That we must make a choice, pick a side and believe in either spirit or matter. That is not the case. Both belongs together and is compatible. We can experience that within us. A human being is a combination of spirit and matter. Who succeeds to experience this consciously has done a very important step on the way to finding truth. From here, all previous experiences can be embedded in a comprehensive concept. Both spiritual experience and the results of natural science have their place and contribute to finding truth, as soon as they can become part of one worldview. We are here to discover and name the world from our perspective. The pursuit of truth is our purpose.
